Kieskompas (Electoral Compass)
Members of the general public find themselves confronted with increasingly complex choices in several walks of life. It is not always clear which choice fits best with their own preferences. Kieskompas BV seeks to help people make more better-informed choices. Based on scientifically approved methods, Kieskompas develops web applications in order to make choices more straighforward and more transparent, both to voters and consumers.
In Kieskompas, science and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. The academic community of the VU University of Amsterdam guarantees innovative solutions and products. The teamwork of top entrepreneurs and designers guarantees state-of-the-art web applications that are easily accessible for large groups of people.
For the 2006 parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, Kieskompas developed an application designed to help voters discover which party manifesto fitted best with their own political preferences. This successful start, which resulted in over three million unique visitors and a multimedia journalism award, was soon followed up with new projects, as you can see in our portfolio (on the right).
Apart from the ‘political’ Kieskompas applications, the enterprise focuses on specific societal themes:
- Politics, democracy and society
- Religion and philosophy
- Work, education and income
- Health and lifestyle
Kieskompas applications provide users with clarity in complex decision-making processes, while also allowing them to make thorough analyses of their options. The applications are always fully transparent. The users' best choice according to the application is always easily identifiable and the basis on which the application provides information is made completely clear to users. Furthermore, Kieskompas produces analyses of users’ opinions and preferences. These analyses provide valuable information for companies and organizations, which can be used to improve the quality of their products or policy-making. The users’ privacy will never be compromised.
